Wine - Red Diamond (2010)
Region - Washington
Variety - Red, Merlot
Purchased at Tom Thumb - 9$
Part of this blog is about trying new things and expanding my taste. I’m not too familiar with Merlot, but I picked up the bottle from a featured rack, plus it has a black label, and black labels are fucking classy.
… that last part was kinda a joke. I’d never make fun of a wine with a crap label.
I’d just make fun of the label XD
Taste - I don’t drink too many Merlots, but the most noticeable part of this bottle was the spicy aftertaste. The taste was velvety and smooth going down, but ended with a sharp and spicy aftertaste. I think because of my unfamiliarity with Merlot it was interesting at first, but as I delved into it and continued to drink, I found less and less of interest to the taste. It was still pleasurable to drink, but not an exceptional or interesting taste one would want to come back to often. There’s probably a better 9$ bottle around, basically.
Serving - Went with another spicy tomato and sausage mix tonight, and it definitely worked with the taste. It’s strong enough to stand drinking alone even if it doesn’t have much intrigue to it. However, it’s too much so to pair with any weaker dish.
Worth a buy, but if you have a prefered Merlot this probably won’t beat it. Good, but not recommended
